We prioritize your privacy by giving you full control over your data. Here’s how we handle your privacy based on how you interact with Maplemeter.

Maplemeter app for mobile devices

Normal usage

  • All personal data is saved locally on your device and is not uploaded to our or any third party servers.
  • We do not collect any telemetry data.
  • We do not require any PII (personally identifiable information) to use Maplemeter. If you enter PII to enable features like cross-device sync, we store it securely and never sell it.

Cross-device synchronization

Certain users may have the option to enable synchronization of their personal data across multiple devices. If the option is provided, an account is required to use this feature.

  • If you opt in to synchronize your personal data between devices, we store your data to provide the service.
  • If you disable synchronization, your data is deleted immediately.
  • We will never share your personal data with third parties, except with service providers who help us provide the service or as required by law.
  • We will only send product updates to your email, and never any sort of advertising. You can opt out of product updates at any time.
  • You may choose to delete your Maplemeter account at any time in the application settings, which will permanently delete your account and all associated data.

  • We do not collect any personal data.
  • We do not collect any telemetry data.

What we collect

By default, we do not collect any personal or telemetry data. Any information that you enter into the Maplemeter app is saved locally on your device and is never uploaded to our servers.

If you enable location access, the Maplemeter app will only access it to detect if you are outside of Canada, and it may automatically add new entries in your travel journal based on the available data, such as the current date and the country you are located in.

If you enable Calendar Import, we parse the calendar events on your device. If one or more events look like trips between Canada and other foreign countries, we may automatically add entries in your travel journal with the event’s dates and the destination country of the trip.

When your personal data may be uploaded

Certain users may have the option to enable synchronization of their personal data across multiple devices.

Account

An account is required to enable synchronization of personal data across multiple devices.

We allow you to create an account and log in to through the following third-party social media services: Google and Apple.

If you choose to register through or otherwise grant us access to a third-party social media service, we may collect personal data that is already associated with that account, such as your name, email address, or any other additional information that you opt to share with us during the registration process.

Personal data

In order to provide the synchronization feature, we partner with service providers who help us store and manage your personal data.

The information that is stored includes any and all data that you have entered or opted to create in the Maplemeter app, including but not limited to your travel journal entries, your settings, and other information entered for calculation purposes.

We will never share your personal data with third parties, except with service providers who help us provide the service or as required by law.

Service providers

Here is a list of the service providers that we partner with to provide authentication and synchronization features:

  • Apple: We use Apple’s authentication service to allow you to log in to your Maplemeter account using your Apple account. Privacy Policy.
  • Google: We use Google’s authentication service to allow you to log in to your Maplemeter account using your Google account. Privacy Policy.
  • Supabase: We use Supabase, provided by Supabase Inc., to store your personal data and account information. Privacy Policy.
  • PowerSync: We use PowerSync, provided by Journey Mobile Inc., to synchronize your device’s local data with Supabase’s servers. Privacy Policy.

Analytics

We do not collect any analytics data.

If you provide your email address to Maplemeter, such that your anonymous usage is de-anonymized, we will only use it to provide service to you and improve the app. (Never sell or share it.)

Ads

We do not collect anything for, or related to, ads.

You can access or delete your personal information anytime by emailing us at info@maplemeter.ca.

California Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance

We comply with the California Online Privacy Protection Act. We therefore will not distribute your personal information to outside parties without your consent.

Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance

We never collect or maintain information at our website from those we actually know are under 13, and no part of our website is structured to attract anyone under 13.

Information for European Union Customers

By using our services and providing your information, you authorize us to collect, use, and store your information outside of the European Union.

International Transfers of Information

Information may be processed, stored, and used outside of the country in which you are located. Data privacy laws vary across jurisdictions, and different laws may be applicable to your data depending on where it is processed, stored, or used.
